The purpose of my motion-sensing game
design is to put the players in an environment
where they have to rely on and help others,
so that they can feel the efficiency and fun
of teamwork, and feel the beautiful experience
of mutual trust and interdependence.

Teamwork is the main way college students complete many projects, and the same method is widely used in various commercial companies. It's certainly a way of working that has a lot of advantages. However, one of my surveys shows that a significant number of college students have a negative experience of teamwork.

Interviews Summary

The illustrations portray how people can make a good teamwork. A good teamwork usually consists of the following process:
Brainstorming, Discussion, Collaboration, Co-working (development) and Presentation.

Problem: Interview Result Visualization

However, through out my observation and own experience, teamwork doesn’t always make people happy.I interviewed seven students and they all mentioned at least one bad team work experience. I asked them to list some key words when they think of previous teamwork experience and found that the negative words greatly are greatly larger than the positive words. This is a visualization of the interview result made with d3.js.

Problem Summary

From the interview result, we can see that bad teamwork experience can bring many negative feelings to one people. These are some illustration of the major problems.

Inspiration/references

As a sports lover, this project idea was inspired from the teamwork I observed when athlets cooperate so well when they performed. I noticed they paid strong effort in their movement cooperation, so I thought maybe I can also design a game utilizing the body balance to help people enhance how to make a good teamwork.

Dance Movement Therapy

Dance/movement therapy, usually referred to simply as dance therapy or DMT, is a type of therapy that uses movement to help individuals achieve emotional, cognitive, physical, and social integration. Since these movement usually conducted in team base, I was inspired that maybe building an interaction utilizing the balance of movement can contribute to helping people understand how to make a good teamwork.

Movement/Posture Design

Base on my research on the poses of athletics and DMT, I design the movement that using the bend level of knee to control the spaceship moving left and right, and the height of knee to control the up and down of the spaceship.

Wearing Set-up Design

The flex sensor and the distance sensor is tied on the equipment and user can wear it on their knee.

To avoid the trouser influence, I design a to make the distance sensor away.

Map Design

Process Development

Using soldering, I connnect the cable and set up the wearing equipment.
